JOB ROLE
Duty solicitor accreditation would be an advantage but is not essential, as long as you are willing to start working towards the duty solicitor qualification.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:
- Advising clients accused of criminal offences on their rights and options
- Negotiating with the prosecution on pleas and charges where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate case records and meeting all deadlines
- Interviewing clients and witnesses to gather evidence for the defence
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
- Confidence working independently as well as part of a team
- A sound understanding of criminal law procedure and court practice
- Clear communication, with the ability to explain complex legal points to clients and build good working relationships with clients and colleagues
