Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Hampshire, are looking for an experienced Kennel Assistant to join their team and play a crucial role within their stray dog service operations.

Position: Kennel Assistant
Rate: £17.05 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (July 2026) Possible Extension
Working Arrangement: Fully Onsite

Job Purpose:

• The Stray Dog Service sits within the Housing, Neighbourhood and Buildings Directorate. The purpose of the Stray Dog Service is to keep stray dogs safe, reunite or rehome and offer advice and support where needed.

Job Duties:

• The Kennel Assistant will support the Senior Animal Warden with the day to day running of the stray dog kennel service.
• The Kennel Assistant will assist the Senior Animal Warden with investigating complaints relating to dangerous dogs and animal welfare matters and will work within the community to promote responsible dog ownership, which may include attendance of community events.
• You will be responsible for the collection of strays and the day to day care of the dogs within the kennels.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• A recognised Animal Qualification is desirable but not essential.
• A thorough knowledge of canines including behaviour, nutrition, enrichment, handling skills and recognising illness and injuries is essential for this role.
• Experience of working with dogs or in a similar environment is essential.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
