Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a local authority in Bedfordshire, are looking for an experienced Highways Development Control Team Leader to join their team and play a crucial role in their highways operations.
Position: Highways Development Control Team Leader
Location: Bedfordshire
Contract: 3 months (Possible Extension)
Rate: £66.08 p/h umbrella
Duties:
- Generating an increasing volume and complexity of planning applications requiring specialist highways input.
- Provide operational leadership across this function, ensuring that highway implications are assessed consistently to an appropriate technical standard.
- Oversee complex and strategic development proposals, allocate and prioritise workload and provide technical direction to officers.
- Provide senior oversight of developer negotiations and the delivery of highway infrastructure secured through the planning process, including Section 106 agreements, Section 278 works, site access arrangements, transport mitigation and sustainable transport measures.
Job Requirements:
- Professional membership or chartered status (e.g., CIHT, ICE, or MRTPI).
- Previous experience of working in a Senior Highways role or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in highways, civil engineering, transport planning, or development management within a local government.
- In-depth understanding of UK planning and highway legislation (such as the Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act).
- Strong stakeholder management, public speaking (for Planning Committees), and commercial/budgetary awareness.
