Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy Local Authority based in Essex, are looking for an experienced Senior Business Rates Officer to join their team and play a crucial role within their recovery operations.
Position: Senior Business Rates Officer
Rate: £26 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract Duration: Temp (Mar 2027) Possible Extension
Working Arrangement: Mainly Remote
Purpose:
- To maintain and safeguard the council’s business rates tax base by establishing liability, processing reliefs and exemptions, maximising income collection, and handling statutory recovery proceedings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Organise and plan workloads, monitoring performance of the Business Rates officers by proportionate quality testing and implementing remedial action where necessary.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Business Rates billing, collection and recovery process, whilst seeking to promote efficiency and continuous improvement.
- To have continuous regard for maximising the Business Rates tax base, growth and income collection, and minimise loss through avoidance and delay.
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation - Essential.
- Experience of working in a supervisory role in a busy Revenues and Benefits Section or in an equivalent environment.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
