Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Southwest England, are looking for an experienced Housing Advisor to join their team and play a crucial role in their homelessness prevention operations.
Position: Housing Advisor
Rate: £2.61 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract Duration: Temp (Oct 2026) Possible Extension
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Job Purpose:
- To prevent and relieve homelessness by providing a comprehensive and high-quality housing options, advice and assessment service. To make best use of resources and services and early intervention for successful housing outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
- To investigate and determine homelessness applications from persons presenting as homeless or threatened with homelessness. To understand and comply with relevant housing legislation, statutory codes of guidance, other relevant legislation, case law and the Council’s policies.
- Provide advice, support, information, and advocacy for individuals, so that they can secure and maintain accommodation, and to reduce and prevent homelessness, including mediating/negotiating with parents and landlords to prevent homelessness and ensure measures are in place to sustain accommodation.
- Manage a caseload of complex customers, engaging with them in undertaking initial assessments, produce support plans, and assist them to achieve the aims identified in their support plan, including co-ordinating the admission and exit of tenants into temporary accommodation, so that individuals are housed in accordance with statutory requirements.
Job Requirements:
- Degree and/or relevant specialist Housing qualification in Housing Advice or equivalent.
- knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and best practice in the prevention of homelessness.
- Knowledge of homelessness prevention practices and comprehensive housing options advice.
