Job Description: Residential Care Worker
Service: Children's Residential Home
Reports to: Senior Residential Care Worker / Deputy Manager / Registered Manager
Location: Nottingham
Hours: Full-time (shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins) Rota 2 on 4 off.
Salary: £13.50-£14 per hour, additional sleep in pay at a rate of £70 per sleep- variable hours contract.
Purpose of the Role
The Residential Care Worker plays a vital role in providing high-quality, therapeutic care to children and young people who live in the home. The role focuses on creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children feel valued, understood, and empowered to grow and achieve their potential.
Residential Care Workers are key to building trusting relationships with children, using empathy, consistency, and reflection to support them through life's challenges. The role requires a calm, child-centred approach that is rooted in trauma-informed and restorative practice.
Key Responsibilities
Therapeutic Care and Support
Provide day-to-day care for children in line with their individual care plans, risk assessments, and placement objectives.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children through consistent, empathetic, and patient interactions.
Support children to understand and manage their emotions, using restorative approaches rather than punitive consequences.
Encourage participation in activities, education, and routines that promote emotional, social, and physical development.
Recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and respond with curiosity, understanding, and reflection.
Support children to develop life skills and independence at a pace that suits their individual needs.
