Hourly Rate: $23.74 per hour (increase to $25.67 per hour after completion of 90‑day probationary period).

Position Summary: The Scheduler/Biller is responsible for the entire range of customer service, front desk and billing functions related to the Kornberg School of Dentistry's clinic in Tamaqua, PA. This includes greeting and screening visitors, answering telephones, returning voicemails, screening calls, taking and relaying messages, using the Clinical Management System to schedule appointments for patients, coordinating schedules for faculty and other departments, and following up with patients on insurance pre‑authorizations. Additional duties include manual and electronic billing, insurance verification, payment posting and reconciliation, follow‑up on denied claims or claims requiring additional information, and other tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select patient appointments and perform front‑desk activities: greeting patients and visitors, checking patients in, announcing arrivals, and checking patients out at the end of appointments.
  • Answer calls, assist callers with questions, take messages, and relay information promptly.
  • Confirm patient appointments and pull patient charts before appointments.
  • Prepare charts for new patients, verify accuracy, update existing charts, and research misplaced or lost records.
  • Verify insurance and work with patients or students to resolve insurance issues.
  • Post payments, reconcile Explanation of Benefits, obtain additional information for resubmissions, and keep patient accounts orderly.
  • Handle patient/student doctor complaints and inquiries and serve as a source of information.
  • Prepare pre‑authorizations, send timely requests, and record receipt numbers.
  • Prepare and submit claims using appropriate channels.
  • Process credit and debit payments at the cluster site when appropriate.
  • Compile statistical data for the Business Office or other departments.
  • Prepare deposits for daily pickup.
  • Prepare reports, worksheets, and other forms related to daily cashier functions, forwarding all information to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain a clean patient waiting area with organized chairs and reading materials.
  • Cross‑train and cover similar administrative duties in other areas of the Dental School as needed.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Business Manager when required.

Required Education and Experience

At least 3 years of related experience with patient interaction within a dental or medical setting. Additional experience with dental/medical billing functions, terminology, third‑party coverage plans in all phases of claims processing, and other insurance functions is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
