Scheduler/Biller – Kornberg School of Dentistry

Position Summary The Scheduler/Biller is responsible for the entire range of customer service, front‑desk and billing functions related to the Kornberg School of Dentistry’s Faculty Dental Practice.

Daily duties include greeting and screening visitors, answering telephones, returning voicemails, managing scheduling through the Clinical Management System, coordinating faculty schedules, handling insurance pre‑authorizations, manual and electronic billing, insurance verification, payment posting, claim reconciliation, and follow‑up on denied claims.

Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $24.45 per hour (increases to $26.44 after a 90‑day probationary period).

  • At least 3 years of patient interaction experience in a dental setting.
  • Experience with dental billing, dental terminology, third‑party coverage plans, and claims processing.
  • Engage in insurance verification and payment posting.
  • Required Skills and Abilities
  • Work primarily at the Broad St and Spring Garden St clinic; travel to the main dental school as needed.
  • Interact with diverse student, faculty, staff, and patient populations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Team player with ability to fill in other school areas when required.
  • Multitask, prioritize, and make independent decisions for non‑complex issues.
  • Must be able to work non‑traditional hours, including evenings from 8 AM to 8 PM during the week and some Saturdays.

Essential Duties

  • Schedule patient appointments and confirm them.
  • Perform front‑desk activities: greet patients, check‑in/out, and announce arrivals.
  • Answer calls, assist callers, take and relay messages.
  • Pull and prepare patient charts before appointments; maintain accurate records.
  • Verify insurance and resolve issues with patients and students.
  • Post payments, reconcile Explanation of Benefits, and resubmit claims as needed.
  • Handle patient/student complaints and inquiries.
  • Prepare pre‑authorizations and submit claims through the appropriate channel.
  • Process credit and debit payments and prepare daily deposits.
  • Compile statistical data and reports for the Business Office.
  • Maintain a tidy waiting area and up‑to‑date reading materials.
  • Cross‑train and assist in administrative duties throughout the Dental School.
  • Submit required reports to the Business Manager.
