The Digital Dental Laboratory Technician will work with Dental Faculty, residents, and students to create customized digital milled prostheses. Responsibilities include CAD/CAM design, scanning, preparing casts, checking digital impressions, advising faculty, designing crowns and prostheses, nesting, milling, staining, glazing, finishing, and administrative support. The Technician will also demonstrate CAD/CAM techniques in advanced restorative courses, supervise clinical data collection, coordinate lab processing of digital prostheses, order and maintain inventory, design and 3D print surgical guides, maintain lab equipment, allocate scanners, and enter work orders into Axium.
Essential Duties
- Work with dental faculty to review and check digital impressions, design, mill, stain, and glaze prostheses.
- Keep faculty updated on realistic timeframes, delays, and solutions.
- Design CAD/CAM crowns, bridges, and other prostheses.
- Pour models as necessary.
- Nest, mill, finish, stain, and glaze crowns.
- Manage operations flow and provide administrative support for lab services.
- Oversee assigning of digital equipment to students.
- Assist faculty in the pre‑clinical digital curriculum.
- Milling in‑house and finishing single crowns and bridges.
- Maintain milling unit and equipment.
- Lead lectures and demonstrations of CAD/CAM techniques in advanced restorative courses.
- Supervise faculty and students with clinical data collection for scanning.
- Stay current with new techniques and provide input to faculty and administration on new technology, equipment, or processes.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a field with heavy CAD/CAM applications and at least six months of directly related experience (CAD/CAM). Equivalent education/experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
Candidates with dental knowledge are preferred.
