Temple University's Lewis Katz School of Medicine division seeks a Director of Development to cultivate and steward major gifts of $50,000 or more for the Temple Health Sciences Campus. The DOD will collaborate with development colleagues and stakeholders across the Dental, Pharmacy, Podiatry Schools and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine to advance Temple Health's mission of excellence in education, research, and patient care, with an emphasis on raising funds for education.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Health Sciences Campus, the DOD is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects to secure major gifts.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more.
  • Collaborate with development colleagues and institutional stakeholders across multiple schools.
  • Develop and execute major gift strategies aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date major gift records in CMS/Blackbaud or similar CRM.
  • Provide stewardship and recognition to major donors, including timely acknowledgment of gifts.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Travel as required and be available for evening and weekend events.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Grade: T28
  • Pay Range: £70,100 – £103,085 annually

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of fundraising experience in a clinical/healthcare or higher‑education setting. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the art and science of major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise and close major gifts (including current-use, endowment, and estate gifts).
  • Proven ability to engage and interact effectively with diverse constituents and serve as a charismatic ambassador.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express information, including funding needs and giving opportunities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and success with developing and sustaining relationships with key constituents.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively, as appropriate.
  • Conversational knowledge of basic planned/estate gift vehicles and concepts.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
  • Commitment to professional development, learning, and mentorship.
  • Strong work ethic and determination to achieve goals.
  • Capability with Microsoft 365, as well as Banner, FPM (Blackbaud), or similar CRM/fundraising databases.

Preferred Experience

  • CFRE, PlusDelta, or other formal major gift fundraising training completed.
  • Experience in an academic and/or medical advancement setting.
  • Experience working in campaigns.

Background check required. Hybrid work arrangement (on‑campus and remote); duration at discretion of Temple University and the Department.
