Temple University’s School of Dentistry is searching for a Business Services Supervisor.

Position Summary

The Dental Business Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all functions in the Business Office and supervising the Business Services staff. This role will lead a team of senior billing representatives and coordinators in our various clinics, registration area, pre‑authorization team, and cashiers. It will also manage revenue cycle workflows, support and collaborate with leadership to optimize financial performance. In addition, the Business Services Supervisor will perform all responsibilities of a Senior Billing Representative, including manual and electronic billing, insurance verification, payment posting and reconciliation, follow‑up on denied claims or claims requiring additional information, accepting and posting payments, and cash reconciliation.

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or another related field and at least three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of dental insurance, including Medicaid, commercial, and managed care.
  • Knowledge of CDT coding and revenue cycle processes.
  • Leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and external contacts.
  • Great attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to multitask, prioritise work, and make independent decisions for complex issues.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the demonstrated ability to calmly handle various complaints, problems, and questions.
  • Proficiency in computer skills; Banner, Microsoft Suite, Adobe, etc.

Essential Duties

  • Management of staff.
  • Maintain insurance website updates.
  • Maintain billing templates and fee schedules.
  • Insurance payer rules and updates.
  • Supervise and oversee training of Business Services Staff (Billers, Cashiers, Pre‑Auth Coordinators, Front Desk staff, etc.).
  • Conduct performance evaluations and coaching.
  • Monitor productivity and workflow efficiency.
  • Create staff schedules and manage coverage.
  • Address performance issues in collaboration with the management team and HR.
  • Familiar with protocols of insurance reimbursement, revenue collection in clinical operations, and manage staff to achieve financial goals.
  • Represent the dental department with all contracted health/dental insurance companies and review, modify, and initiate software and operational programs to ensure that revenues are collected from all payment sources.
