Responsible for carrying out tasks related to the decontamination process, including the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment. These items are prepared to ensure they are safe and ready for use in patient treatment across Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments, in compliance with established protocols and infection control standards.
Main duties of the job include:
- Carry out all tasks associated with the decontamination process, including cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment.
- Ensuring all items are prepared to the highest standards for use in Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments.
- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards.
- Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability.
- Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.
- Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments as required.
- Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.
Essential qualifications include:
- Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate OR Vocational Level 3 Decontamination OR Equivalent level of knowledge, work experience and skills within a decontamination role.
Essential experience includes:
- Previous experience in Sterile Services.
