Facilities Assistant / Caretaker Location: Hackney Hours: 7AM-3PM Contract Type: Temp to Perm About the Role: We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Facilities Assistant / Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day operations of our school site. This vital role ensures our buildings are safe, clean, and fully functional for pupils, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities: Open and lock the school premises daily, including gates and buildings Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., door handles, fixtures, furniture) Perform routine safety and compliance checks (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting, legionella) Support health and safety compliance across the site Maintain clear and safe external areas (e.g., playgrounds, car parks, pathways) Monitor and log maintenance issues using checklists or manual logs Liaise with contractors and report issues to the Facilities Manager or SLT Experience & Skills: Previous experience in a handy-person / caretaker / site assistant role Basic knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations Understanding of safeguarding and working within school environments Comfortable using manual logs or basic compliance systems (e.g. CAFM – desirable but not essential) Personal Qualities: Hands-on, physically fit, and able to carry out manual tasks Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic Team player with a proactive attitude Able to work independently and take initiative Requirements: Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) Awareness of safeguarding procedures Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
