The role involves joining their Innovation Team to drive innovation projects focused on energy transition, grid modernisation and facilitating the growth of emerging technologies. This role is designed for thought leaders with deep technical expertise and a passion for research-driven innovation.
The Innovation Team assists network companies, governments and regulators with specialist studies, data analysis, and the development of innovative systems and services. As a key member of the team you will be undertaking advanced studies that shape the direction of energy systems into the future - including grid resilience, advanced renewables connectivity, grid to grid integration, digital and data management.
Project management & implementation:
- Lead and support innovation projects from concept to implementation - responsible for ensuring the project is delivered to client expectations.
- Assess emerging trends and undertake searches to identify prior relevant research.
- Leverage software solutions (including AI/machine learning where relevant) to support project delivery.
- Conduct simulation scenario assessments using power systems software for analysis.
- Assess commercial viability of technologies and models - comfortable with risk and financial assessments.
- Proactively explore new concepts and investigate the feasibility with prospective clients.
Knowledge sharing & thought leadership:
- Production of both technical and non-technical material for disseminating studies to clients and on behalf of their clients.
- Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and developments.

Essential requirements:
- Technical expertise in power systems with strong knowledge of modelling, simulation and optimisation.
- Experience with renewable energy integration and grid modernisation.
- Power Systems software experience with for example, IPSA, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, etc.
- Research and innovation capabilities in a related field with experience participating in industry/academic/regulatory projects.
- Commercial and strategic thinking, good understanding of market trends, technologies and regulatory models.
- Stakeholder management, experience managing project teams, coordinating with partners and driving projects to successful outcomes.
- Experience with business development - engaging with external senior leaders, listening and co-forming prospective proposals.
- Experience working with clients to identify, refine problems and value propositions.
- Experience with proposal development, management through to project close (minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable requirements:
- Experience using Python or alternative programming capability.
- Experience of PSCAD.
- Experience in both RMS and EMT dynamic simulations of electricity networks, ideally for inverters and Grid Forming Controllers.
- Experience with cyber security and network resilience would be welcome but not essential.
- Postgraduate research experience (Masters, PhD.) welcome but not essential - demonstration of research skills.
