Temp Station are delighted to announce we are currently recruiting a Customs Coordinator to join a busy and established freight forwarding client in the Normanton WF6 area on a permanent basis.
Description of the overall and essential areas of responsibility in the position, listed
The primary role is to coordinate the import and export of products and components in and out of the UK, in strict compliance with all applicable import and export regulations. The role also requires the coordinator to ensure all transports are planned in the most cost and time efficient manner.
Description of your mandates/authorization (cf. Chart of Authority), if applicable
- Handle the day-to-day customs clearance operations by liaising with the International Operators
- Update of internal customs systems
- Request or compile necessary Export or Import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents
- Clear goods through customs using paperwork provided by the international operator
- Calculate duty and tariff payments owed on shipments
- Advise internal operators on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas, or other customs-related matters
- Confer with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through customs and quarantine
- Maintain proactive inter-departmental coordination, in order to process the shipments on time
- Attend and reply to queries and proactively update Internal operators on the status of their shipments
- Invoice internally all custom processed shipments on a weekly basis
- Keep record of all shipments that have issues and ensure all processes are followed and closed out case by case were required
- Ensure Internal operators comply with all aspects of Customs Clearance and ensure procedures are followed according to the internal operating procedures
- Escalate any internal issues to managers immediately
- Be prepared to deal directly with external operators / customs as and when required to do so
- Using Destin8 to claim trailers, renominate UCN’s and ensure all consignments are cleared before any rent charges occur
- Liaise with external brokers to ensure their clearances do not hold any of our trailers at port
- Create IPAFF documents for any goods that require them
- HMRC amendment forms for VAT/duty overpayments/underpayments
- Cooperate with Border Force requests immediately and sufficiently
