We are rebuilding the energy transaction, making it transparent and fair. We're rebuilding how energy is bought and sold. That means cutting out middlemen, connecting businesses directly with renewable generators, and ensuring every transaction is traceable and transparent. We're a 160+ person team - operators, data scientists, engineers, customer champions and energy experts - backed by top-tier investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Hitachi Ventures, Allianz, AlbionVC and Atomico. We closed a $75M Series B round in early 2026, taking our total funding to $94M, and we now power energy for over 4,000 UK businesses across 8,500+ sites, with over £75m in value returned to businesses and generators so far.

We're a technology company solving the energy industry, not an energy company. Some people call us a neo-utility, the neo-bank idea, applied to energy. The industry is noticing. We were crowned Europe's Most Exciting Tech Company at the GP Bullhound Allstars awards, came in at #6 on LinkedIn's Top Startups 2026 in the UK, #7 on the Scaling Europe 50 of Europe's fastest-growing companies, and #14 on Sifted's AI 100.

We're hiring a Portfolio Risk and Treasury Manager. This role reports directly to the CFO and sits in our Finance team. You will be the team's first dedicated hire in risk oversight and treasury, independent of the teams whose positions and processes you oversee and challenge. It's a solo, individual-contributor role for now: no team to manage, but real ownership of a complex, cross-functional, load-bearing area that touches our pricing and trading engine, FP&A, cash management and our commercial and people teams, and that increasingly matters to how investors, the board and funding partners see the team's risk maturity.

The team doesn't yet have anyone who owns liquidity as a discipline, or a second line of defence on risk. Growth in our business is capital-intensive: every collateral demand, margin call, commission payment and new market adds to the cash we need to carry, and the cost of that cash is rarely visible in the decisions that create it. You will build that capability from scratch, bringing treasury and independent risk oversight together, so that the team's risk and liquidity management stands on its own rather than marking its own homework.

In your first 12 months, you might:

  • Stand up the team's second line risk function: independent oversight and challenge of our first line risk processes, with risk appetite and limits that are set, monitored and acted on.
  • Build the liquidity models the team runs on, short and long term: working capital, collateral, margin calls, cash runway, and the credit facilities and letters of credit behind them.
  • Put cost of capital into our commercial pricing decisions, so the liquidity a deal consumes is visible at the moment the deal is made.
  • Work with the CFO to secure liquidity provision that scales ahead of the business and new markets.
  • Replace manual portfolio reconciliation with automation, and build our operational risk framework from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Second line oversight: establish and run independent oversight and challenge of the team's first line risk processes across trading and portfolio activity, input into risk appetite and the setting of notional and VaR limits, and monitor ongoing adherence.
  • Liquidity modelling: build and maintain short-term (cash runway, margin call forecasting) and long-term (growth and new market funding) liquidity models, covering generator collateral, hedging counterparty collateral, variation margin, credit facilities and letters of credit.
  • Working capital: own working capital efficiency as a measured, targeted discipline rather than a byproduct of other teams' decisions, working closely with Finance's cash management team.
  • Cost of capital and pricing: develop the team's cost of capital framework, make it usable in pricing, give our pricing and commercial teams the cost of capital impact of their decisions, and challenge decisions that consume liquidity without adequate return.
  • Liquidity risk: model liquidity risk from volume and price variance on energy volumes, run stress scenarios and report liquidity headroom against them.
  • Liquidity supply and funding: work with the CFO to engage lenders, credit facility providers and collateral and letter of credit providers, keep liquidity provision ahead of the business with early visibility of when new capacity is needed, and prepare liquidity and risk materials for funding partners, investors and the board.
  • Operational risk: build the team's operational risk framework from the ground up, including incident reporting and management, and drive automation of portfolio data reconciliation, from hedge contracts and confirmations through to hedge settlement and cash reconciliation with Finance.
  • Reporting and stakeholders: build automated, async-first risk reporting (dashboards and written updates by default, a live sync only when something needs real-time discussion), represent the team with hedging and generator counterparties and funding partners, and communicate risk and liquidity positions clearly to leadership.

Requirements:

  • Must-Haves:
  • Risk management or treasury experience from a fintech, quant trading or other digital-native environment: modern, tech-first risk practices rather than legacy, spreadsheet-driven ones.
  • Knowledge of energy markets, energy trading or energy risk management and portfolio balancing.
  • Liquidity modelling experience: working capital, collateral and margin dynamics, and cash forecasting over short and long horizons.
  • Risk modelling experience, including VaR and stress testing, and an understanding of cost of capital and how to translate it into commercial decisions.
  • Data literate: comfortable working with and drawing conclusions from portfolio and risk data.
  • Genuinely curious and intellectually sharp (this is a thinking role, not a process-running one), and confident communicating with senior stakeholders, external counterparties and funding partners.

Desirable:

  • Experience raising or managing credit facilities, letters of credit or other trade finance.
  • Experience of US electricity markets.
  • Operational risk experience, or familiarity with the Ofgem regulatory environment.
  • Comfortable using AI tools as part of day-to-day work. No coding or SQL required.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Stock options so everyone has ownership in our mission.
  • 25 days holiday plus public holidays. Swap public holidays for the ones that matter most to you, and enjoy your birthday off.
  • Remote first and flexible working, with clear core hours and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.
  • Up to GBP1,200 or EUR1,400 per year for your remote setup.
  • Up to GBP150 or EUR170 per month for wellbeing.

Interview Process:

  • First call with our Talent Team.
  • Behaviour Interview with the Hiring Manager.
  • Technical Interview with the Team (90 mins). You'll meet with potential peers in this session and will discuss how you would model and stress the team's liquidity, where you would set and monitor risk limits, and how you would make cost of capital usable in pricing decisions, including a practical exercise.
  • Bar Raiser Interview with Stakeholders.
