About the Position

As a Linguist at TELUS Digital, you will play a crucial role in our language processing and analysis team, focusing on the Slovenian language. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Annotation of linguistic data, meticulously labeling and categorizing Slovenian language data to train and refine our machine learning models.
  • Creating comprehensive grammar rules and language templates to aid in the development of sophisticated language technologies such as voice assistants and translation systems.
  • Identifying and analyzing linguistic patterns within the Slovenian language to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our language processing algorithms.
  • Evaluating existing Slovenian linguistic data to ensure its accuracy and completeness, providing valuable insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Ideal candidates will have native level of fluency in Slovenian, could be a student in the late stages of their studies, and demonstrate some of the below:

Knowledge and experience

  • Solid and comprehensive understanding of the formal aspects of the target language (e.g. grammar, parts of speech, formal/casual/dialects)
  • Knowledge/awareness of linguistic terms and concepts
  • Good understanding and interest in the current technology landscape: IT & computing, AI, machine learning, voice assistants, internet of things

Skills

  • Grasping technical concepts and learning new tools
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with confidence and little oversight
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Additional skills:

  • Experience using NLP tools and concepts
  • Experience in annotation work
  • Knowledge of formal linguistics
  • Working knowledge of complex tools, e.g. CMS, SQL, Advanced Excel/Sheets
  • Some knowledge of programming/coding (e.g. Python, R, regular expressions)
  • Experience in testing, data processing, database management
  • Formal linguistic education is a plus
