Focus of the Role

As Heavy Plant Operator, you will undertake the full range of end to end installation with the construction of Optical Fibre cable to meet our customers' expectations with limited supervision or direction.

What You’ll Do

Telstra InfraCo - Operations & Asset Management oversees Telstra's operations and asset management functions. This role is a Fixed Term/Secondment opportunity for 18 months.

Roster: 18 days on/10 nights off (travel in work time)

Achieve faultless end to end construction of Optical Fibre cable, provisioning and maintenance of the customer access network and associated infrastructure through compliance to prescribed standards, practices and procedures, and to the full satisfaction of customers' expectations.

Plan and undertake planned activities associated with infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, through compliance to prescribed standards, practices and procedures within given timelines.

You will work within a team environment contributing to the delivery of a premium level of service to our customers by ensuring all work is undertaken in a timely and cost-effective manner, meeting set quality standards and customer commitments.

You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with your peers and key internal and external stakeholders relevant to the achievement of business performance objectives.

HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.

Work in accordance with a continuous work roster of 18 nights away 10 nights home. You will always maintain network integrity. ‘Always on’

About You

The following skills and experience will help you to be successful in this role:

  • Heavy Plant knowledge and operating experience with Dozers, Excavators, Backhoes.
  • Understanding/willing to learn Plough Dozer
  • Manual labour duties associated with Plough construction - Pit and Pipe Install, Rod and Roping, Marker Post Installation, Re-Establishing property owner infrastructure fences, irrigation, Cleaning and Greasing heavy machinery for daily operations.
  • Truck Licence, HR-C (combination) essential. Maintain logbook for all truck driving duties required.

Highly Desirable

  • Backhoe RII ticket - highly desirable
  • Excavator RII ticket - highly desirable but not essential.
  • Dozer RII Ticket
