Job Summary

Telstra Broadcast Services has recently opened a new Broadcast Operations Centre in London to better serve our live sports and media customers in Europe and around the world. The new broadcast facility is home to a Master Control Room (MCR), a broadcast and network engineering team and a bookings function. The MCR, based on the Isle of Dogs in London’s Docklands, is responsible for managing a range of permanent and occasional use content services across fibre, internet, satellite and cloud. The primary focus is on high value live sports transmission, with additional media and entertainment services also managed through the TBS UK MCR.

As a MCR Technical Operator you thrive on solving problems. You play an important role by providing technical service, solutions and support to video & IP networks, infrastructure, products, and services supplied as well as emerging technologies operated by Telstra.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary support and operational duties for the TBS MCR and Telstra’s Internet Delivery Network (IDN), Global Media Network (GMN), Special Events Network (SEN), and cloud platforms.
  • Undertaking pre-event checks and configuration of broadcast encoders and decoders.
  • Monitoring and switching live services (lines in and lines out).
  • Evaluating signal quality and platform stability at both an IP and HD-SDI level.
  • OTT service delivery and management.
  • Satellite downlinking and line-up to EBU standards.
  • Scheduling of kit and capacity management.
  • Booking feeds with uplinks when needed.
  • Operating software-based recording and playback devices.
  • Providing first line support to issues and incidents and implementing service restoration procedures.
  • Recording incidents and irregularities.
  • Monitoring system alerts and performance thresholds and identifying preventative action.
  • Communicating with suppliers, partners and customers as required.

  • Calm in a crisis, able to methodically analyse and identify an issue.

  • Professional manner when dealing with customers, international MCRs, and Internal departments.
  • Technology enthusiast, curious and keen to learn.

Technical Proficiency in the following

  • Working within IT environments.
  • Measuring via waveform monitors.
  • Operation of routing tools/panels.
  • Familiar with IP streaming technologies (e.g. DVB transport streams).
  • Encoder/decoder hardware operation and configuration.
  • Common broadcast terminology and solutions.
  • Familiar with transmission automation systems.
  • Familiar with OTT streaming systems.

Additional Skills and Experience (Helpful but not required)

  • Prior work in a fast paced live sports or entertainment environment.
  • Technical and/or broadcast training and qualifications.
  • Languages in addition to English.
