Are you passionate about the environment and the quality of our public open spaces? Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking a proactive Waste & Neighbourhood Services Engagement Officer to support cleaner, safer neighbourhoods and improve recycling and waste management behaviours across the borough. You will deliver frontline, face-to-face engagement with residents and local partners, including doorstep engagement and targeted campaigns to improve the correct use of waste and recycling services. You will also monitor cleansing and grounds standards and task operational teams to improve the local environment. The role involves working largely independently on site, acting as a visible council presence within local communities. You will liaise and collaborate with colleagues and services across waste and recycling, as well as the grounds and cleansing team.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering targeted engagement activity to improve recycling and improve the cleanliness and standards of our green and open spaces
  • Carrying out doorstep engagement to resolve waste-related issues
  • Working with residents, Ward Members, Parish and Town Councils and contractors to help drive improvements
  • Supporting effective activity through evidence gathering
  • Monitoring issues and contributing to local action plans

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent)
  • Experience in a customer-facing or community-based role
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage challenging situations
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience in waste and recycling or environmental maintenance
