The primary purpose of this role is to support the day-to-day operation of the Orange Tree Restaurant and the wider Hospitality and Catering Department. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of services while maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Orange Tree restaurant and two kitchens to an exceptional hygiene standard.
  • Remove all waste from both kitchens and restaurant and liaise with Site Services for hygiene and waste disposal.
  • Have an awareness of EHO standards and requirements.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of hygiene across all kitchen areas, including fridges, ovens, and food preparation spaces.
  • Identify any issues relating to equipment maintenance and notify the relevant department, adhering to Telford College health and safety policies.
  • Ensure sufficient stock of PPE.
  • Ensure a copy of the food handling/safety certificate is available and on-site risk assessments are up to date within the restaurant.
  • Maintain laundry provision including the rotation of tea towels, over gloves, dish cloths, and student uniforms, and manage restaurant laundry when required.
  • Liaise with staff to discuss day-to-day operations and implement requests accordingly, assisting the team where needed in a proactive manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the Restaurant Co-Ordinator to ensure high standards of service and professionalism are maintained in the Orange Tree.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Relevant experience working within a kitchen and restaurant environment.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills at individual and group level.
  • Experience of working in a teaching environment.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage workload effectively.
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity and equality of opportunity.
  • Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others.
  • ICT qualification (Desirable).
  • Health & Safety qualification (Desirable).
  • Level 2 (or equivalent) in English & Maths.
