We're looking for a Waste & Recycling Compliance and Performance Officer to provide specialist expertise across our borough wide waste and recycling services. This influential role supports services delivered to over 80,000 properties, involving around 12 million collections per year and the operation of 2 Household recycling centres, and helps ensure our waste contracts are compliant, high performing and ready for future reform.

About the role

You will be able to demonstrate you can interpret waste and environmental legislation, or other complex guidance and translate it into clear, practical advice that supports compliance, performance and value for money. Acting as a trusted advisor, you'll work closely with contractors, regulators, politicians and internal teams, providing input on waste reuse, reduction, recycling and waste processing. You will analyse and report on performance trends and financial impacts.

What we're looking for

You will bring strong experience, interpreting complex regulations in a waste, environmental or similarly regulated field, with the confidence to balance legal, commercial and reputational risks. You will be comfortable explaining technical issues to a wide range of audiences and influencing outcomes. Local government experience is welcome, but applications from other regulated sectors are encouraged.
