An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our Corporate Finance team as a Senior Accountant or Accountant with a clear progression route linked to qualification status, experience and performance. You will act as the finance lead for key corporate service areas, including Finance, People & IDT, and Policy & Governance, providing high quality financial advice and insight to senior managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading on budget setting, financial planning and pricing models
  • Providing regular financial monitoring, analysis and advice throughout the year
  • Preparing year end accounts, statutory returns and grant claims
  • Supporting and attending project boards and key meetings
  • Advising on the financial implications of reports and recommendations to senior leadership and Members, including Cabinet and Full Council
  • Undertaking complex financial costings and proactively identifying options and solutions
  • Contributing to bids and funding submissions

You will work closely with budget holders, Service Delivery Managers and senior stakeholders, developing strong professional relationships across the organisation.

Leadership & Team Management

Reporting to a Group Accountant, you will have day to day line management responsibility for a small team of Finance Officers, providing supervision, guidance and development while ensuring high standards of service delivery. This role offers a strong opportunity to further develop leadership capability alongside advanced technical expertise.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • CCAB qualification (fully qualified or actively studying) with up to date CPD
  • Significant finance experience, ideally within local government or a similarly complex public sector environment
  • Experience acting as the financial lead for a service area or equivalent portfolio
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to meet demanding deadlines
  • The ability to analyse and interpret complex financial information and present it clearly to senior officers and Members
  • A proactive, solutions focused approach to problem solving
  • Strong ICT skills and confidence using financial and corporate systems (Experience of Unit4 ERP is desirable)
Working Arrangements

We are well established in a hybrid model of working, combining time at home with office attendance. When in the office, the role will be based at Darby House, close to Telford Town Centre with excellent road and rail links.
