As a Bridges & Structures Engineer, you will take a leading role in the inspection, management, design, and delivery of structure-related engineering projects across the borough. You will ensure our highway structures, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other assets, are safe, compliant and maintained in accordance with national standards and asset management best practice.
Working with internal teams, external partners and contractors, you will support the delivery of annual and long term maintenance programmes, contribute to the Local Transport Capital Programme, and provide specialist technical advice across the Council.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead on routine, ad-hoc and special inspections of highway structures.
- Develop, maintain and improve the Council's Bridge Station asset management system.
- Use asset data, deterioration modelling and condition assessments to create long term strategies and maintenance programmes.
- Produce technical feasibility studies and engineering reports.
- Prepare detailed design schemes, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
- Manage engineering projects from concept to completion, including financial and programme monitoring.
- Respond to enquiries from councillors, residents, and external partners.
- Work collaboratively with contractors, consultants and external engineering partners.
- Fulfil duties of Principal Designer under CDM regulations where required.
- Supervise Assistant Engineers and Apprentices when necessary.
