The Bridge School is a friendly, welcoming school with a supportive staff team who are committed to making a difference. We are an all-age special school for pupils with profound, complex and severe learning difficulties operating across multiple sites within Telford, each providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment tailored to the needs of our pupils.

Apprentice Teaching Assistant

Fixed term contract for 21 months at £10.99 per hour for the first year, minimum wage for age in the second year. Posts available for September 2026 start date. Apprenticeship minimum wage applies - currently £9.84 per hour for the first year. After the first 12 months, the salary will increase to minimum wage per age for apprentices aged over 19 years of age.

36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time + PD days) Monday - Friday. Holidays must be taken during school holiday periods only. 36 hours per week includes staff meetings, training programme and study time. As part of this placement, you will be expected to undertake off the job training.

About the post:

  • We are looking to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our committed team and make a difference to the lives of the children and young people that attend our school.
  • Support pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties throughout all aspects of their school day and education.
  • Assist with communication development using AAC, sensory strategies, and specialist approaches.
  • Provide personal care, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support as appropriate (full training provided).
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, professionals and families.
  • Support pupils on educational visits and in the local community.
  • Help deliver engaging activities tailored to individual needs.
  • Build trusting relationships that support pupils' emotional wellbeing, safety, and independence.
  • Be flexible and confident in working across multiple sites as required to meet the needs of the school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is caring, patient and committed to supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Communicates clearly and works well as part of a team.
  • Is a resilient and reliable individual.
  • Is willing to learn specialist skills and approaches used within the school.
  • Is organised and has a willingness to study towards an apprenticeship whilst working.
  • Can demonstrate a good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Holds GCSE Grade A - C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics (This is essential).
