Based in the West Midlands, with links to major motorway networks such as the M54 and M6, Telford and Wrekin is a successful and growing Borough with a diverse housing market. With a growing and ageing population, our private rented sector is also growing. Our housing enforcement team ensures private rented properties in our Borough are safe, free from hazards and legally compliant. This post forms part of the councils Housing Enforcement Team. Under the Housing Act 2004, the Local Authority has a duty to ensure that private sector housing meets minimum standards. You will be joining the team at an exciting time with the new Renters' Rights Act bringing with it more protection for tenants. The role plays a vital part in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community ensuring that they have access to safe and healthy housing in line with our newly adopted Housing Strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Investigating housing complaints and undertaking enforcement action
  • Assessing and licensing HMO's
  • Conducting inspections to identify disrepair and housing hazards
  • Taking formal enforcement action to ensure compliance with housing legislation

We operate a flexible working system; our office day is Wednesday in Telford, the rest of the week you will be home based, however you will be expected to carry out your inspections in Telford on other days.

What we are looking for:

  • A solid understanding of housing legislation, guidance and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Strong communication and organisational skills to manage a diverse and demanding caseload
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of customer care
  • Strong background in housing enforcement, service of notices, civil penalties and enforcement
