Location: Field based - Central Belt of Scotland (Glasgow / Edinburgh, with travel across Scotland and occasional North England travel)

At Telent, we’re excited to invite a talented Vehicle Installation Field Engineer to join our dynamic Network Services Vehicle Engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and Blue Light services, installing and maintaining critical electrical systems, communication systems and radio systems in a range of emergency services vehicles and sites. This role offers the chance to further develop your skills in in-vehicle electrical installation, radio communications, and networking technologies, while working on high-impact projects supporting emergency services and major clients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting communication systems in emergency service and commercial vehicles
  • Supporting both vehicle-based and site-based systems, including radio and networking equipment
  • Working to SLAs, ensuring high first-time fix rates and maintaining high safety and quality standards
  • Managing tools, equipment, and assets effectively
  • Supporting installation and maintenance of systems such as TETRA, VHF/MF radios, MDT’s (mobile data terminals), telematics systems and networking equipment (routers/switches)
  • Collaborating with colleagues and customers to deliver reliable, high-quality service

Who You Are:

You are a competent Engineer or Technician with hands-on experience in electrical installations and maintenance, particularly within low voltage equipment / in low voltage environments. You don’t need to come directly from a vehicle installation or blue light / emergency services background - we are open to candidates with transferable skills, such as:

  • Automotive electrical work (e.g. installing dashboards, telematics, sat navs, audio systems, safety systems etc.)
  • Radio communications or telecoms installations
  • Electrical or maintenance roles involving wiring and fault finding

You are confident working independently, comfortable travelling extensively, and willing to stay overnight when required. You take pride in delivering quality work and are keen to continue developing your technical skills.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in electrical installation and maintenance (low voltage wiring essential)
  • Relevant qualification such as City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent (or demonstrable experience)
  • Ideally 18th or 19th Edition, though not essential (training can be provided)
  • Experience or exposure to radio communications systems (e.g. TETRA, VHF) or similar technologies
  • Basic understanding of networking equipment (routers/switches) is desirable
  • Full, valid UK Driving Licence holder
  • Ability to achieve SC Security Clearance (minimum 5 years UK residency)
  • Comfortable travelling across Scotland with occasional overnight stays
