Telent is looking for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join our Business Support Commercial team, supporting contract management and bid activities across a range of business-critical infrastructure projects. This role will work closely with senior commercial and delivery teams, helping to manage contracts, support negotiations, and provide commercial insight across the full contract lifecycle – from bid stage through to delivery. Working Arrangements:

  • Hybrid working with flexibility to work from home
  • Expected to attend the Telent Warwick office at least 1–2 days per week
  • Occasional travel to depots, sites, or customer locations across the UK
  • Potential flexibility to work from the London office periodically if required

What you’ll do:

  • Provide commercial support across bids and live contracts, ensuring compliance with Telent governance and compliance
  • Support the negotiation and drafting of contractual agreements, including involvement in smaller negotiations
  • Manage contractual processes such as compensation events, early warnings, and contract changes
  • Work collaboratively with delivery, project, and bid teams to review and structure commercial solutions
  • Identify commercial risks and propose appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Support more complex and strategic bids through coordination and stakeholder engagement
  • Act as a commercial point of contact for assigned contracts, managing issues and maintaining strong relationships
  • Assist with contract governance, including deeds, NDAs, and contract documentation processes
  • Participate in contract reviews, cost reviews, and internal governance forums
  • Present and summarise commercial positions clearly to internal stakeholders

Who you are:

You are an early-career commercial professional with a strong foundation in contract management, legal, or commercial disciplines. You are detail-oriented, commercially aware, and confident in identifying risk and supporting negotiations. You enjoy working collaboratively, take ownership of your work, and are keen to build your experience across increasingly complex bids and contracts. A proactive mindset and willingness to learn are key to success in this role.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in a commercial, legal, contracts, or similar roles
  • Strong understanding of commercial risk and contractual principles
  • Ability to review, draft, and support negotiation of contracts
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience working with customers or external stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Other backgrounds considered, from legal, conveyancing, quantity surveying, or finance
  • Understanding of infrastructure, telecoms, utilities, or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with contract frameworks (e.g. NEC, JCT, or public sector frameworks)
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Law, Commercial, Quantity Surveying)
  • Experience supporting bids or working alongside bid teams
