We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer - PAVA (Public Address and Voice Alarm) to join our Network Services team, supporting engineering projects across the Nuclear Industry.
This is a technical delivery role focused on the end-to-end design of Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems, from early design to detailed design, compliance verifications, documentation, validation, configuration, factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests.
The role is hybrid, primarily home-based, with an expectation to attend the Warwick or Dunball offices and supplier premises at Lewes (East Sussex) around 3-4 days per month, with occasional additional travel depending on project needs.
Flexibility to travel is required, including a full UK driving license.
Due to project / programme requirements, you must be eligible for BPSS and SC Clearance (minimum of 5 years UK residency rule applies).
What you'll do
- Lead the design of PAVA projects, producing high-quality design documentation that meets project specifications, standards and regulations.
- Develop detailed design outputs, including drawings, bills of materials, compliance statements, calculations, surveys, test procedures and commissioning documentation.
- Take designs from early-stage requirements through to detailed design, including HLD, LLD, configuration, testing and validation activities.
- Review design dependencies, technical information and design documentation produced by colleagues, suppliers or project teams.
- Work closely with colleagues, suppliers, clients and internal teams to resolve technical design queries and support project delivery.
- Support continuous improvement by reviewing processes, recommending best practice and sharing technical knowledge across the team.
- Provide technical guidance to design engineers and junior engineers, while remaining focused on technical delivery rather than people or project management.
Who you are
You'll be an experienced Design Engineer with a strong technical background in Public Address Voice Alarm (PAVA), Public Address General Alarm (PAGA) or similar safety-critical communication systems.
You'll be confident producing detailed design documentation (high level design and low level design), solving technical problems and working with stakeholders to deliver and deploy right-first-time solutions.
This role would suit someone who enjoys leading design delivery, supporting complex engineering projects and sharing technical expertise with others.
Key Requirements
- Experience designing Public Address and Voice Alarm systems, with PAGA experience also highly relevant.
- Strong understanding of applicable design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and engineering standards, including BS 5839-8 and EN 54.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation, drawings, calculations, compliance statements, test procedures and supporting design packs.
- Experience working in safety-critical or complex infrastructure environments such as nuclear, utilities, oil and gas, rail, aviation or transport.
- Familiarity with Zenitel (ASL) systems would be advantageous.
- Must be eligible for BPSS and SC security clearance, including a minimum of 5 years of UK residency.
- Holder of a UK driving license.
