The successful Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer will join a talented team of Traffic Signals specialists. You will work closely with an experienced Traffic Engineer to troubleshoot, fix, maintain, and test a range of traffic signals, traffic lights and associated electrical equipment in the Northeast region. The role requires you to be on call every 1 in 4 weeks and to work nights when the contract requires.
What you’ll do:
- Carry out maintenance of traffic signals and associated equipment and commission new signal equipment
- Ensure test equipment, PPE and vehicle are all compliant with up‑to‑date certification as required
- Complete works in accordance with site specifications
- Complete maintenance in line with agreed schedules and SLAs under supervision
- Carry out on‑site risk assessments and follow method statements
- Attend team briefings and toolbox talks as required
- Carry out Site Acceptance Tests with clients at basic sites
Who you are:
Proactive, with an interest in troubleshooting, fixing, testing and maintaining electrical equipment. You have some exposure to telecoms or network equipment (e.g., outdoor lighting, CCTV, controllers, detection boxes, radio equipment) through prior work or a college course or diploma.
Key Requirements:
- Motivation and willingness to learn on the job and through online learning
- Previous experience of networks and telecoms, maintenance, fixing or installing, or holder of an electrical course/diploma or similar
- Problem‑solving skills and the ability to think outside the box when following fault‑finding instructions
- Full UK driving licence holder
- Willingness to undertake a drugs & alcohol test to ensure compliance
