When you join Telent's Engineering Team, you will be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. You will work on a range of Rail projects, including Operational Communications (trackside) and Safety & Security (stations) for Network Rail and other train operating companies.

What you will do:

  • Develop a solid understanding of the projects we are delivering and learn each facet of the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with production of bill of materials and equipment lists to support subsequent build phases.
  • Visit sites and assist with technical site surveys and audits.
  • Assist in the engineering planning and progress tracking.
  • Learn how to produce engineering drawings.
  • Provide client updates on progression reports with method statements.
  • Learn and understand budgets and costings.
  • Learn software design tools such as Visio and CAD.
  • Understand and adhere to Health & Safety requirements in a Rail environment.
  • Understand the installation, testing and commissioning of a wide range of products across multiple technologies and manufacturers.
  • Work in environments from offices, equipment rooms, stations and track-side.
  • Collaborate as part of a team to meet deadlines.
  • Learn the requirements of different customers and contracts and how to fulfil those needs.

Who you are & what to prepare for:

We do not require prior experience; full training will be provided. We are looking for candidates with the right attitude, drive, commitment, and willingness to learn.

You will receive a mobile phone and a laptop as part of the role. Although supported by Telent, you will need to take ownership of tasks and your personal development. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, planning and organizational skills, and the ability to use their initiative. A proactive, positive attitude to work and career development is essential.

The Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4 or higher (or equivalent), including Maths, English and a Science or IT-based subject.
  • X2 A-Levels or equivalent in 2 STEM-related subjects (desirable, not essential).
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Full UK Driving licence.
  • Must be over the age of 18 by September 2026.
  • Able to adhere to the Drugs & Alcohol policy and pass a pre-employment assessment.
  • Willing to travel to Telent and client sites.

Programme specifics:

  • This apprenticeship is typically 36 months to complete.
  • Starting salary of £17,500, increasing throughout the programme.
  • The qualification gained is Rail Engineering Technician Level 3.
  • National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) supports you in obtaining the qualification.
  • Work from Warwick HQ with responsibilities that may include working from home and at client sites across the UK.
  • On completion, we hope to offer a full-time position with Telent.
  • You will be mentored by colleagues, supervisors, managers and tutors.
  • You will gain industry-recognised vendor certification such as a PTS (Personal Track Safety) card.
