Working on our Highways projects and reporting to the Commissioning and Test Manager, the Installation & Commissioning Engineer will support the ever-growing demand to deliver network and installation activities of NRTS 2 equipment: IP CCTV, Juniper, Nokia, AMG and CISCO. The focus of the role will be deadline driven and there will be a requirement to work both days and nights as the contract requires, with the work being on a national scale covering from Carlisle to Cornwall requiring up to 4 overnight stays a week.
What you’ll do:
- Installation and provisioning of motorway communication cabling and hardware to enable equipment to be commissioned to Highways Agency standards.
- Experience of working within bespoke communications infrastructures and delivering new technologies, such as remote and local deployment configurations, Juniper, Alcatel, AMG, MOXA.
- Install active switch technology and liaise with the Provisioning team in the NOC.
- Test and terminate a variety of copper and fibre ends within agreed testing requirements.
- Deliver quality assurance on all works undertaken and provide a first‑fix, first‑time approach.
- Installation and commissioning of networking components including DWDM/CCTV/IPT(SIG/MIDAS) equipment, switches and routers.
- Passive and active equipment installation, Cat5e and Cat6 / single mode fibre.
- Maintain tracker tools for reporting information to track and monitor progress of the project and ensure compliance.
Who you are:
You will have experience in an Installation and Commissioning Engineering role, ideally gained within the Highways industry. Flexibility with travel as well as day and night work are essential.
Key Requirements:
- Experience working within bespoke highways communications infrastructures and delivering new technologies or highways electrical based experience.
- Knowledge of technical drawings or ability to understand installation drawings and scheme schematics.
- Relevant HNC qualification or solid relevant experience within an electrical engineering/telecommunications field.
- Knowledge of communication networks and experience working with transmission and IP networks.
- Will be required to undertake SC clearance.
- Full driving licence.
