Rail Design Engineer Apprentice in Warwick

What you’ll do:

• The successful apprentice will experience working with a telecoms design team on major UK-wide Rail Projects.
• Develop a solid understanding of the projects and learn how Rail communication systems are designed, used and developed.
• Learn how to produce detailed design using Design Tools such as Visio and AutoCAD.
• Understand and learn the design process whilst adhering to regulations and governance.
• Gain an understanding of the design lifecycle as well as client requirements.
• Assist the Design Team with the delivery of key design projects and work towards strict deadlines.
• Escalate design issues where necessary and help manage the mitigation of risks, issues and budgets.
• Understand and adhere to the Health & Safety requirements of the UK rail infrastructure.
• Interface with other operational engineer departments.
• Liaise with client project timelines.

• No prior experience is required as full training will be provided.
• We are looking for candidates with the right attitude, commitment, and desire to learn.
• You will receive a mobile phone and a laptop as part of the role.
• Ownership of tasks and personal development is essential.
• The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, planning and organisation skills with a positive, resilient work ethic.

The requirements:

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 9 to 4, specifically in Maths, English and Science or an IT related subject (A* to C).
• A-Level or equivalent in Maths or Engineering subject desirable but not essential.
• Must be eligible to work in the UK.
• Must be over the age of 18 by September 2026.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drugs and Alcohol test.

Programme Specifics:

• This apprenticeship is typically 36 months in duration.
• Starting salary of £17,500 which will increase throughout the programme.
• The qualification gained will be a Level 3, Rail Engineering Design Technician.
• Predominantly office based at home with frequent visits to our Warwick site and client sites.
• On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent.
• You will be mentored by colleagues, supervisors, managers and tutors throughout the programme.
