Telent are now looking for a SCIDA Technical Advisor to support the SCIDA team following the recent transition of the RAF SCIDA programme. This hybrid role will see you acting as a trusted engineering Authority for RAF Digital - ensuring CIS infrastructure is designed, installed and managed in line with MOD standards. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, influencing multi‑stakeholder projects and safeguarding the integrity of critical Defence systems, this is an impactful and rewarding position.
SCIDA is a Ministry of Defence (MOD) mandated function that provides assurance for the design, installation, and ongoing compliance of ICT infrastructure across MOD sites. Its purpose is to ensure installations meet rigorous security, safety, and engineering standards, supporting resilience and effective configuration and change management within Defence environments.
In this role, you will ensure Telent delivers Technical Advisor services for RAF Digital, acting as a partner to Air CySC CIS Infrastructure Change Management throughout the project lifecycle. You will verify CIS requirements, ensure contractor designs comply with the CIS Specification, and oversee key processes such as NSSR submissions and ECR governance. You will also be the focal point for interpreting and enforcing MOD engineering standards including JSP 453, JSP 440 and SDIP‑29.
This SCIDA Technical Advisor role will see you travel to various RAF sites across the Central and Midlands region, with travel to other RAF sites across the UK where needed - a full UK driving license and flexibility to travel is required.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the Technical Advisor role for MOD building projects focused on CIS requirements.
- Define CIS requirements using the CIS Specification, drawing input from URDs, IERs, A6 CIS Infra, station communications staff, end users and other stakeholders.
- Align project activities with the RIBA stages of work, ensuring appropriate technical progression at each milestone.
- Act as the SME for CIS infrastructure, supporting design and delivery across multiple workstreams.
- Ensure full adherence to the ECR process from initiation through to approval.
- Develop and maintain the CIS Specification so that it:
- Accurately reflects the project URD
- Consolidates third‑party requirements into one compliant design
- Optimises shared infrastructure to reduce duplication and cost
- Supports future expansion and change control
- Provides detailed inputs for costing at each project stage
SC Clearance required; UK National.
Who you are:
You are an experienced technical professional with strong SCIDA knowledge, capable of interpreting complex CIS designs, guiding project stakeholders and ensuring installations comply with strict MOD standards. You are confident advising senior stakeholders, structured in your approach and comfortable working across multiple project stages. You thrive in a role where technical assurance, problem‑solving and stakeholder engagement come together, and you bring both the independence and communication skills needed to manage responsibilities across a broad Defence estate.
Key attributes:
- Completion of CIDA Foundation Courses (mandatory for TAs and engineers)
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills
- Excellent communication skills for engaging senior stakeholders
- SCIDA experience (essential)
- Experience on MOD CIS projects and understanding of CIS design principles
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Strong compliance, inspection and technical reporting background
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to obtain DV Clearance
- Understanding of the RIBA process
- Experience with design, management or maintenance of MOD CIS/ICT/ATM systems
- Awareness of Crypto and TEMPEST considerations
- Working knowledge of JSP 440, JSP 453, DICTIS, JSP 375, UK BS/SIs and SDIP‑29/2
