An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Operations Supervisor to join a fast-paced fabrication and innovation environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong welding and fabrication knowledge who thrives in leading workshop operations, coordinating production activities, and driving high standards across safety, quality, and delivery.
The Role
You will oversee the day-to-day running of a busy fabrication workshop, ensuring prototype and production work is effectively planned, scheduled, and delivered. Acting as the operational lead on the shop floor, you will coordinate workflow, manage WIP, supervise fabrication activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives. You will also deputise for the Workshop/Innovation Manager when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily workshop operations and team activities
- Coordinate welding and fabrication schedules to meet deadlines
- Monitor production flow and WIP across all stages
- Allocate labour, machinery, and workstations efficiently
- Support material planning and consumables management
- Supervise welding and fabrication teams on the shop floor
- Ensure all work meets engineering drawings and quality standards
- Conduct inspections and support corrective actions
- Maintain strong 5S and workplace organisation standards
- Enforce health & safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Deliver toolbox talks and support continuous improvement activities
Requirements
- Previous supervisory experience within a fabrication or welding environment
- Strong understanding of fabrication workflows and workshop operations
- MIG/TIG welding experience with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience managing production schedules and workflow
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Proactive, hands-on leadership style
- Health & safety and quality-focused mindset
