The Level 2 Technical Services Engineer is responsible for the day‑to‑day operational support of the enterprise hosting platforms that underpin critical clinical and business services within a major healthcare environment. Working as part of the Telefónica Tech Hosting Team, the engineer will support a large‑scale infrastructure estate including VMware virtualisation, Windows Server platforms, Active Directory services and core infrastructure components such as DNS, DHCP and certificate services. This hands‑on operational role focuses on maintaining service stability, resolving incidents, implementing changes and performing routine maintenance across the hosting environment.
Engineers work across a broad set of infrastructure technologies rather than specialising in a single platform, gaining exposure to virtualisation platforms, Citrix environments, enterprise storage, backup platforms and application hosting services. The role provides an excellent opportunity for a Technical Services Engineer to develop broad enterprise platform experience while contributing to the evolution of a critical NHS hosting environment.
Qualifications- Relevant experience supporting Windows Server environments within enterprise or large‑scale infrastructure environments.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory and core infrastructure services such as DNS and DHCP.
- Experience operating within virtualised environments such as VMware.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills within production infrastructure environments.
- Experience working within an IT service management framework managing incidents, requests, and changes.
- Experience working within an IT Managed Services Environment.
- Ability to prioritise tasks effectively within a busy operational environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Exposure to Citrix virtual application or desktop platforms.
- Experience with enterprise backup platforms such as Commvault.
- Familiarity with enterprise storage platforms supporting virtualised infrastructure.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including routing, switching and firewalls.
- Experience with scripting or automation within infrastructure environments.
- Formal qualifications and the following certifications are beneficial: VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft infrastructure certifications, Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization, ITIL Foundation.
The role is primarily based on‑site at the customer location, with an expectation of at least four days per week on‑site. Occasional travel to Telefónica Tech office locations may also be required for team meetings or business activities.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and identities regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We are also committed to equity, accessible hiring practices, and creating an inclusive culture through many means including employee networking groups. At Telefónica Tech, we believe inclusion is the bridge that empowers everyone to be their authentic selves. We celebrate and respect our differences because diversity drives innovation and makes us stronger. Be yourself with us, and feel that you belong. We don’t believe hiring is a tick‑box exercise, so if you feel that you don’t match the job description 100%, but would still be a great fit for the role, please get in touch.
