We are seeking an experienced Level 3 Linux Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance critical Linux environments. This role involves troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring system reliability, and leading the delivery of high-impact projects. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, security, and scalability of Linux-based systems.

You will have deep expertise and experience in Linux operating systems and environments. You will also have good foundational knowledge in multiple capabilities ranging from VMware, Windows Active Directory Services, DHCP, DNS, PKI, File Services, SQL, Backups, Citrix, Storage, and Data Center.

Collaboration will be a key aspect of this role as you will work closely with Technical Services colleagues and Project Teams to deliver new services, upgrades, and BAU support. Drawing upon your technical expertise and experience, you will ensure that services are built in alignment with industry and contractual best practices. You will be expected to offer technical insights and challenging solutions to ensure the adoption of best practices. Additionally, you will play a vital role in continuously providing security assurance for all services and actively seek opportunities for service and process improvements.

In this role, we expect you to be confident and proactive, unafraid to challenge existing solutions and recommend best practices. As a Level 3 Linux Engineer, you will be relied upon for your technical prowess and will provide guidance and assistance to the wider team whilst also being able to serve as a coach and mentor to junior members. You will also assist with any escalations within the team to aid incident and problem resolution, while maintaining a strong focus on delivering continuous service improvements.

We expect you to possess exceptional troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently. Your proactive approach to addressing technical challenges will contribute to the continuous improvement of our infrastructure. Adherence to company policies and procedures will be of utmost importance as you uphold our standards of excellence.

Qualifications
  • Extensive experience with Linux operating systems (e.g. RHEL)
  • Strong expertise in troubleshooting and performance tuning of Linux servers.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Scripting and programming skills in Python or similar languages.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge in Server Management, Storage Management, Virtualization Management, Configuration Management, Capacity Planning, Compliance & Security Management and Documentation & Standardisation, High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Service Design and Architecture, Technical Insights and Innovation, Testing and Quality Assurance, Deployment and Configuration, Problem Solving and Troubleshooting.
Preferred certifications:
  • RedHat certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE or similar.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation

This role can be completed remotely (UK only) but some travel will be required to Telefónica Tech Offices and to the Customer Site aligned with planned Team & Business needs. Travel at short notice may be required as part of this role but expected to be minimal. Travel is estimated to be 5% – 10%.
