We are looking for candidates who have a keen interest in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. We are excited to offer opportunities for 7 Manufacturing Craft Apprentices to join our site in St. Asaph, North Wales in the following areas:
- Assembly
- Machine Shop
- Optical
- QST (Qioptiq Space Technology) located in Bodelwyddan
The successful candidates will form part of an experienced manufacturing team and will learn and become responsible for the manufacture of precision mechanical / optical components using a variety of machine tools to satisfy technological needs in-line with the engineering requirements of the business. This is an excellent opportunity to work with our world-renowned Engineering Teams and highly skilled Operations Departments, learning the skills required for a successful career within our business.
Job outline: A Craft Apprenticeship is a combination of external and in-house training; the successful applicants will follow the Craft Apprentice plan as outlined below:
- Complete Performing Engineering Operations (PEO)
- Complete a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering
- Complete a Level 3 Manufacturing NVQ in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
- Complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
- Complete Engineering Essentials Key Skills
Craft Apprenticeship Development Plan:
- Attending an approved qualification programme on one- or two-day release basis, dependent on engineering qualifications
- Follow an Internal Department Development Plan, led by your dedicated Mentor

Qualifications Required: It is essential that all applicants have a good level of general education and must have, or expect to receive, a minimum of grade C in Mathematics, Science and English Language. Applications will also be considered from candidates who have completed, or part-completed, a relevant Engineering course. Please provide details of the completed modules, along with results.
Personal Specification: The ideal candidate should have the following experience and attributes:
- A desire to continue learning to HNC Level
- Good attention to detail, interpersonal skills and excellent communication and time keeping skills
- Experience of Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Driving License
- Ability to time manage external qualifications whilst working full-time
