Role Details

The RF Power Project Development team is responsible for the development and delivery of next generation future products within the RF Power division portfolio. Although this is a multi-disciplined team, this role focuses on mechanical and electrical assembly and test of complete RF systems. Working closely with experienced lead engineers, designers, test engineers and project managers, plan and organise the product deliverables by drawing on your extensive experience in an engineering role covering prototyping, NPI (new product introduction), DFM (designed for manufacture) and production / verification testing.

This role would suit a production engineer with hands on experience of electrical / electronic assembly, fault finding and test. Understand the technical concepts and practical applications of systems architecture. Sub-system interfacing (including high voltage / high power connectivity) and control principles (serial, analogue and digital). Planning, undertake and where appropriate the management of a range of electrical / electronic fabrication and test activities with the aim of delivering in a timely manner.

Provide effective (accurate and timely) feedback to project teams, stakeholders and management (both written and verbal) in a style that is relevant to the audience. Mentor other members of the project fabrication and test team as required. Be a natural team player, with the ability to listen as well as direct. Producing test specifications, build instructions and technical test reports. Identify and investigate test failures and implement corrective action. Support a proactive safety culture which includes risk management and mitigation. Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas in a customer facing role (typical 5 to 10% per year).

Experience and Qualifications

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical / Electronic engineering or equivalent experience working within a professional engineering development / production environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical / electronic fault-finding techniques.
  • Proven ability to work from assembly drawings / schematics, work instructions and procedures.
  • Familiarity using standard test equipment and interpreting results.
  • Comfortable working in a small engineering team and supporting others.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of magnetron and travelling wave tube operation.
  • A working knowledge of RF (radio frequency) principles and ability to undertake RF power monitoring system (PMS) measurements. Further understanding of RF measurement techniques and results interpretation would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of high voltage testing in particular electrical safety.
  • Experience of complete product life cycle design, encompassing original development from concept through to final design and customer handover.
  • Competent in the use of AutoCad (ideally AutoCad Electrical) as a design / capture tool.
  • Familiarisation of BS EN61010 electrical safety standard and Low Voltage directive 2014/34/EU.
  • Small form factor soldering and / or J standard qualification (or willingness to learn).
