Teledyne e2v Space Imaging has been trusted to design and deliver imaging sensors and sub-systems to over 250 space missions helping humankind to better understand the world we live in. Teledyne e2v Space Imaging provides high performance CCD, CMOS and IR sensors for space science, earth observation, astronomy, and scientific applications. Sensors are designed, fabricated, post-processed, packaged and tested in our facilities in Chelmsford (UK). Teledyne e2v Space Imaging is now working on several large-scale, multi-year projects that are significantly increasing the demand level on its operations. In recent years, Teledyne e2v Space Imaging has also secured contracts to deliver solutions at a focal plane level, including mechanical assembly, cryogenics and proximity electronics. With a long and enviable history of technical and scientific innovation, Teledyne e2v is always working at the forefront of technology.

Position Summary and Responsibilities: The Business Development & Sales Manager for Space Imaging is a strategic, commercially focused role requiring strong technical awareness and relationship‑building skills. Based in Chelmsford with hybrid working, the role involves regular travel for customer meetings, events, and internal activities. Focusing primarily on the UK commercial and defence space sector, the manager will sell existing and emerging solutions across agencies, academia, OEMs, primes, and commercial space companies. Alongside managing key accounts, they will develop early‑stage opportunities and grow long‑term pipeline value. A core responsibility is providing market and customer insight to guide product development and help the organisation adapt to evolving needs. The manager will drive the full sales cycle—from campaign design and lead generation to value selling, bid activity, order closure, and delivery—across assigned territories and accounts.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the organisations sales plan and own personal order intake and revenue targets
  • Grow and nurture opportunities from idea to new product platform and portfolio
  • Develop and grow the sales opportunity pipeline, supporting the team’s business development managers and wider Teledyne profit and loss owners
  • Develop business development plans which include proposition, sales plan, risks, barriers and budgets
  • Maximise strategic account revenue, and develop mature accounts into strategic accounts
  • Find and onboard new market application opportunities and new customer accounts
  • Ensure the highest standards of customer support at all stages of the sales lifecycle
  • Oversee and where needed manage the customer proposal requests to completion
  • Represent Teledyne at industry events, and seek and exploit opportunities for increasing capability and brand awareness
  • Provide market intelligence and present in a suitable way to all levels of the organisation with the aim of influencing the business react to opportunities and market conditions
  • Act as a conduit for multi-directional network access and opportunity building for the global Teledyne Space collaboration
  • Work with the Director of BD to support the wider team when required

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a full SC security clearance without Restrictions.

Skills & Experience / Essential Qualifications:

  • 5+ years working in a sales/business development and marketing environment
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferably in technical and engineering disciplines
  • Experience of imaging technologies or ability to quickly grasp key technical principles through personal research and discussion with technical internal points of contact
  • Experience in closing complex sales
  • Post-graduate qualifications from recognized institutes (ideally level 6 and above), desirable
  • Languages are advantageous but not critical for this role
  • Wide network of applicable contacts and experience of creating new networks rapidly
  • Experience in the development of value propositions
  • Experience in designing and presenting compelling presentations and proposals
  • Experience in lead capture, account cultivation and account management for a global business
  • Experience in the use of CRM and lead management tools

This role is a hybrid role with an expectation of 2 days a week in Chelmsford, UK. Although primarily UK focused, this role will require travel and working across time zones as part of an international team.
