Job Description
At our Manufacturing facility in Newbury, Berkshire, the Teledyne Reynolds Team design, build and test custom high‑reliability interconnect solutions to carry signals through some of the most advanced technologies on the planet. Our cable systems power aircraft cockpit technologies, avionics, and radars to aid pilots on their flight path and ensure their safety. With the semiconductor market in higher demand than ever, our products, which aid the inspection and quality assurance of chips, are advancing with new designs and test requirements. Our Engineering and Operations teams have been directly involved in fulfilling sales orders and getting hands on with products that are now roaming the surface of Mars, orbiting the Sun, and landing on asteroids. Due to high performance over recent years, we are now looking to expand our team. With a strong outlook in Defence, Commercial and Space markets, we are focusing on new product development and future technology systems and are looking for a Production Engineer with a working knowledge of production processes, tooling, and test equipment in a cable‑harness manufacturing environment.
About The Role
The Production Engineer will be an instrumental part of the Production and Operations team by taking ownership of our processes and internal procedures. The Teledyne Reynolds product portfolio is broad and interesting, covering prototype stages, full manufacture and test. You will provide line‑side support to the Production staff and be the main interface between them and the Engineering department for NPI and legacy product ranges. Reynolds are in a current stage of growth where direct headcount is increasing, new products are coming online and capital expenditure along with shop‑floor re‑layouts will be key for success. The Production Engineer will be heavily involved in this process and lead projects to assist the company in reaching its end goal.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the process oversight of end‑to‑end manufacture of high‑reliability interconnect products, including production and test, documented in specifications and procedures held within our systems.
- Ensure that all tooling, build aids and test equipment are designed and available for the orders on the backlog.
- Ensure that production capital equipment is in working order and kept in line with industry standard.
- Raise and act on change notes in a timely manner to keep product records up to date and accurate.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives laid out by the company, promote them to production staff and work with them to identify further gains.
- Be fully responsive to the manufacturing floor by ensuring that production stops are resolved proactively and prevented from re‑occurring.
- Provide training to the Operations team where required on new processes and products.
- Assist the Sales, Engineering and Purchasing departments with technical information on products regarding build and lead times as well as component selection and specification.
- Troubleshoot issues with build and test of products, working with operators and test technicians to resolve them.
- Support and implement site‑wide TPM schedules.
- Integrate with the QA department to ensure that steps are followed to maintain high yield of product.
- Support the Operations manager in achieving the targeted figures in terms of OTD, PONC and revenue targets.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of production processes, tooling and test equipment in a cable‑harness manufacturing environment.
- HNC/HND in an Electronics or Mechanical Engineering discipline is desired.
- Proactive and resourceful while managing multiple tasks in succession.
- Good working knowledge of Excel, Access, MRP systems and experience with a CAD‑based drawing package.
- Able to analyse and document issues with attention to detail, using own initiative to solve and investigate problems with a can‑do attitude.
- Good communication skills and ability to interface with internal and external customers as required.
