Raymarine is a major supplier of electronic navigation and other equipment for marine use. The company principally targets the recreational market, but also serves first responder and light commercial markets. The middleweight UX Designer works within a team of designers based on the south coast of England, solving complex UX challenges and creating beautiful, distinctive, and simple interfaces. The team designs products and services across a range of platforms - from embedded interfaces in our dedicated hardware (navigation displays, VHF radios, autopilots, remote controls etc), to mobile applications, and web services. We design interfaces in areas as diverse as navigation apps, thermal cameras, audio control, cartography, sonar, radar, and coastguard/lifesaving. Each of our products present unique and interesting user interface design challenges. We sit in an increasingly competitive sector, but one in which user experience plays a key differentiating role. Our products are used worldwide, helping hundreds of thousands of boaters enjoy their time on the water with safety and confidence, using the latest technology.

The role demands someone with strong UX design experience, comfortable working on a number of projects simultaneously, providing creative input while working in agile teams alongside developers, designers, and product managers. They have up‑to‑date awareness of design trends, latest processes and tools and can bring fresh perspectives and new insights to the team. They understand technical constraints such as display resolutions, different input modalities (hardkeys/touchscreen/trackball/mouse/voice), processing constraints, and also design for UX standards, screen legibility, information architecture, graphics and more. They are able to plan design projects, estimate timing, identify unknowns/potential risks, and work with third parties including customers/partners/internal and external stakeholders. Prior experience of boating is desirable but not essential, but building domain knowledge through first‑hand experience and interacting with users, dealers, and installers is a core part of the role.
