Position Summary and Responsibilities
This position is open to all levels of experience. Work includes both the design and testing of cameras required to characterise and verify the performance of our space imaging sensors. The electrical hardware is required to control the drive and acquisition of our high‑speed Imaging Sensors. We are also expanding the business to design Front End Electronics for space, with the LISA project being our first major flight mission contract. The Engineer will be working in cross‑functional teams, reporting to Project Managers and Project Lead Engineers, to ensure project requirements are met and verified in line with the defined project plan. The engineer will also ensure our capabilities are maintained at the cutting edge, and are aligned with our development roadmaps. For experienced applicants, the role will involve mentoring and coaching of other engineers in the team, as well as chairing design reviews. To drive our capabilities forward, the successful candidate will acquire an in‑depth knowledge of how our devices operate, along with the test circuits and peripheral sub‑systems required for testing and validating the sensors. In collaboration with the wider engineering team, the Engineer will provide bid and business development support. This support will include reviewing and specifying technical proposals, conducting trade‑off analysis, and supplying estimates for effort and material cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Full PCB design for space applications including component selection, schematic capture, analysis, documentation, stack‑up definition, and administration of external layout activity.
- Preparation and presentation of concepts and designs that meet the requirements, driven both by internal and external customer needs.
- Maintain and update compliance verification matrix with respect to electrical requirements.
- Drive system architecture trade‑off discussions at Systems Requirement Review and Preliminary Design Reviews.
- Detailing of system architecture and interface diagrams for gate review documentation.
- Preparing and presenting all necessary documentation relevant to the electrical design for gate reviews, both internal and external.
- The engineer will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively to all stakeholders.
- Maintain Compliance and Verification Matrix of compliance for electrical hardware requirements, this is particularly important for gate reviews.
- Proactive and constructive participation in schematic and layout design reviews.
- The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in driving capability within the department, for experienced applicants this will include mentoring and training of engineers within the team.
- Taking a strong lead with verification and testing of electronics, and preparation of well‑structured and clear associated documentation.
- For experienced applicants, a good understanding of the engineering lifecycle required for high reliability electronics, and adherence to relevant standards is advantageous.
