Job Outline
The job holder is responsible for the delivery of the procurement plan for the business. This will be heavily influenced by the Procurement Director and/or Operations Director. Responsible for a budget spend of £40M.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
- Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation
- Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
- Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking
- Assess, manage and mitigate risks
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
- Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
- Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and improve margin
- Collaborate with inventory control and sales to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs, maintaining those levels
- Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses
- Manage the company’s day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure that all purchasing agents are meeting their personal performance standards
- Assist in developing more effective invoicing and collecting processes
Personal Specification
As a minimum we are seeking candidates with a CIPS Level 5 who have had at least 3 years’ experience managing a procurement team. Ideal candidates will be comfortable managing a team whilst also having responsibility for a key commodity within the procurement team. Candidates will have a team and customer service focus, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and continually changing environment. Additionally full proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required, with knowledge or prior training of Toyota Production System (TPS) as a desirable skill.
