Role Overview
The Building & Construction Project Lead will be responsible for setting up and leading capital (CAPEX) construction and refurbishment projects from initial feasibility through design delivery and final handover. The role requires a strong Project Manager with solid construction experience capable of operating on large complex sites ideally within a defense environment. The role involves leading multi-functional project teams, managing stakeholders, ensuring compliance with client procedures and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and lead CAPEX construction and building services projects from feasibility to handover
- Develop, manage and monitor detailed project delivery plans
- Prepare and manage CAPEX business cases through approval, delivery and close-out
- Identify, manage and mitigate project risks and opportunities
- Monitor audit and validate progress of professional service work packages
- Lead multi-functional teams through detailed building services design
- Develop design briefs and scopes of work for external professionals (architects, structural engineers, M&E designers)
- Oversee refurbishment works, major plant replacement and lifecycle planning
- Review technical compliance, installation quality and H&S adherence on site
- Lead and coordinate internal and external stakeholders including consultants, contractors, QS, CDM and client representatives
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and project partners
- Ensure effective communication across all project phases
- Compliance, safety and reporting obligations
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Strong Project Management experience within construction or large site environments
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects from inception to handover
- Experience managing CAPEX projects and multi-functional project teams
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to attend site as required
- Awareness of health & safety legislation and technical compliance
Desirable
- Defence sector experience
- Experience working on the client side
- Background in facilities management (FM) or consultancy environments
- SMSTS or CCNSG certification
- NEBOSH experience
- Practical understanding of mechanical and electrical building systems
- Experience using MS Project, SharePoint and standard IT tools
Qualifications
Experience is prioritised over formal qualifications ONC / HNC or equivalent in Building Services or Engineering (desirable). Professional membership (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE, IET) is advantageous.
