We are seeking an experienced DV Network Engineer to join a high-performing team delivering mission-critical network infrastructure for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and wider defence sector. This is an outstanding opportunity for a skilled network professional to work on complex, classified environments where your technical expertise and security mindset will make a genuine difference to national security. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise-grade network infrastructure, with a focus on Cisco technologies including SD-WAN and ACI. Working within a security-cleared environment, you will collaborate with defence stakeholders to deliver robust, resilient, and secure network solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage Cisco network infrastructure including SD-WAN and ACI environments.
- Provide Levels 2 and 3 support for complex network issues across MOD and defence sites.
- Work closely with MOD stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver secure, scalable network solutions.
- Perform network capacity planning, performance monitoring, and optimisation.
- Contribute to technical documentation, network diagrams, and architecture review processes.
- Support the lifecycle management of network assets including upgrades, patching, and decommissioning.
- Ensure compliance with MOD security policies, ITSEC standards, and relevant government frameworks.
- Participate in on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support as required.
Essential Requirements
- Active Developed Vetting (DV) clearance – this is a strict prerequisite for the role.
- Proven experience working within MOD or defence/government environments.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco technologies, ideally including SD-WAN and/or ACI.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
- Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs).
- Experience with network security principles, firewalls, and secure network architecture.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a secure environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, or similar).
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management frameworks.
- Knowledge of cloud networking and hybrid environments.
- Additional Cisco certifications (CCIE, or specialist tracks) advantageous.
