Junior Business Analyst - Financial Services Client Key information Client: Financial services organisation Location: Glasgow Working pattern: Hybrid, (2 days per week onsite) Contract length: Six months IR35 status: Inside IR35 The role A financial services organisation is looking for a Junior Business Analyst to support Senior Business Analysts across two change initiatives: a Hong Kong market exit and decommissioning programme, and a data protection project focused on unstructured data.
The position will involve working in a regulated environment, with responsibilities spanning business processes, systems, data, controls and regulatory documentation. The Junior Business Analyst will take ownership of clearly defined analysis tasks once the initial direction and expected outcome have been established.
This will include gathering and documenting requirements, analysing current-state processes and data flows, assessing business impacts, and producing clear outputs that can be reviewed and used by Senior colleagues and stakeholders. The successful candidate will work with teams across IT, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal and Information Security. The role therefore requires someone who can progress work independently, organise findings in a structured way, and escalate risks, dependencies or gaps when appropriate.
Key responsibilities
Take ownership of assigned business analysis activities and deliver them from initial investigation through to documented output. Elicit, document, validate and maintain business requirements. Produce impact assessments and supporting project documentation. Analyse current-state processes, data flows and controls. Contribute to the design and documentation of future-state processes. Assess products, systems and data affected by the Hong Kong market exit.
Support decommissioning analysis covering process closure, data retention and audit requirements. Document the regulatory, operational and customer impacts associated with the exit. Track dependencies across internal systems and third-party suppliers. Analyse unstructured data held in shared drives, email repositories and document stores. Support data mapping, classification and retention assessments. Identify data protection risks and contribute to remediation planning.
Gather evidence and validate findings with stakeholders across technical, operational and control functions. Ensure analysis and documentation are clear, accurate and auditable. Escalate risks, issues and dependencies appropriately. Key skills and experience Two to five years' experience in a Business Analyst or Business Analyst-adjacent role, depending on previous background and exposure. Practical experience eliciting and documenting business requirements. experience analysing processes, data flows, controls and business impacts.
Ability to take ownership of defined tasks and progress work with limited supervision. Strong written documentation skills, with an emphasis on accuracy, structure and auditability. Confidence engaging stakeholders across different business and technical functions. Ability to identify and communicate risks, issues and dependencies.
Nice to have experience within financial services, particularly insurance or pensions. experience working in another regulated environment. Exposure to regulatory change, system decommissioning, market exit or data protection initiatives. experience analysing unstructured data, data retention or information classification.
