Job Description

The IT Asset Management (ITAM) Architect defines, designs, and governs the enterprise-wide IT asset management strategy, architecture, processes, and tooling.

This role ensures effective management of hardware, software, cloud, and digital assets across their full lifecycle, supporting compliance, cost optimisation, operational efficiency, and wider business transformation.

Acting as the technical authority for ITAM solutions, the ITAM Architect works closely with Infrastructure, Security, Procurement, Finance, Service Management, and Technology teams to build and maintain a sustainable, scalable asset management capability, with particular ownership of Service Now HAM Pro, SAM Pro, CMDB integrations, discovery tooling, and associated governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the enterprise IT Asset Management (ITAM) architecture and roadmap to support current and future business needs.
  • Develop target operating models for Hardware Asset Management (HAM), Software Asset Management (SAM), and Cloud Asset Management.
  • Create solution blueprints, standards, design principles, and technical documentation for ITAM processes and platforms.
  • Ensure ITAM architecture and solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Design and govern ITAM solutions using Service Now and related platforms, including HAM Pro and SAM Pro.
  • Lead architecture decisions for HAM, SAM, CMDB, Discovery, Procurement, and IT Service Management (ITSM) integrations.
  • Define scalable integration patterns between asset repositories, procurement systems, ERP platforms, discovery tools, and cloud environments.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across the entire asset ecosystem.
  • Design end-to-end asset lifecycle management processes covering procurement, deployment, inventory management, software licence management, maintenance and support, and asset retirement and disposal.
  • Establish governance controls and approval workflows that support robust asset lifecycle management.
  • Ensure lifecycle processes support auditability and meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Define software licensing and entitlement management strategies to maintain compliance and optimise usage.
  • Support software compliance programmes and vendor audits for major software suppliers.
  • Drive optimisation initiatives to reduce software spend through reclamation, licence harvesting, and rationalisation.
  • Establish and maintain software reclamation and licence harvesting processes to minimise waste.
  • Define standards for hardware inventory and lifecycle control, including tracking and reconciliation.
  • Implement processes for hardware tracking, reconciliation, ownership assignment, and compliant disposal.
  • Support asset refresh programmes and contribute to sustainability initiatives related to hardware lifecycle.
  • Establish ITAM policies, standards, and operating procedures to guide consistent asset management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing agreements, regulatory requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Lead internal and external audit activities relating to IT assets and asset management processes.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting frameworks, and maturity assessments for ITAM.
  • Act as the senior ITAM subject matter expert and primary technical authority for ITAM solutions.
  • Engage effectively with CIO, CTO, Security, Procurement, Finance, and Service Delivery teams to align ITAM with organisational objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams and managed service providers involved in ITAM initiatives.
  • Support presales, solution design, and transformation initiatives where ITAM capability is a critical component.
  • Produce key deliverables including ITAM strategy and roadmap, architecture designs, solution blueprints, operating models, governance standards, integration designs, compliance reporting frameworks, data quality frameworks, and lifecycle process designs.
  • Contribute to achieving success measures such as improved licence compliance, reduced software and hardware costs, increased asset data accuracy, successful audit outcomes, improved asset lifecycle governance, and adoption of standardised ITAM processes.

Essential Skills

  • Extensive experience in IT Asset Management architecture and governance, covering hardware, software, cloud, and digital assets.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Service Now HAM Pro and Service Now SAM Pro.
  • In-depth understanding of Configuration Management Database (CMDB) design and operation.
  • experience with discovery and inventory platforms used to identify and track IT assets.
  • Strong knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and their integration with ITAM.
  • Knowledge of major cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud.
  • experience integrating ITAM tools with procurement systems, finance systems, and ERP platforms.
  • Good understanding of the ITIL framework and its application to ITAM and ITSM processes.
  • Understanding of software licensing models from major vendors including Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, Adobe, and VMware.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and ITAM best practices relevant to asset management and governance.
  • Proven ability to define enterprise strategies and operating models for ITAM.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to run workshops and produce clear documentation.

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • ITIL Foundation certification (minimum level required).
