We are looking for a talented Senior Build Engineer contractor to join the Game Production team within Kings Shared Tech organisation. This position will enable you to shape the future of our client technology platform, helping King to power some of the most popular mobile games in the world, such as Candy Crush Saga. Our vision in Shared Tech is to provide a competitive technological advantage for game teams at King, helping them to deliver amazing player experiences. This position is located at King's office in London to have close proximity to the teams with which you will have close cooperation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Defining Core Build System Architecture: Collaborate with engineers to design a flexible and scalable Bazel-based build system for our platforms, ensuring a solid foundation for future expansion.
- Providing Technical Expertise and Training: Conduct in-house training sessions on Bazel and BuildBuddy for build engineers to accelerate knowledge acquisition and facilitate a smoother migration.
- Improving Developer Experience: Evaluate and optimize workflows, tooling, and IDE integrations to minimize friction and enhance productivity for developers using Bazel.
- Identifying and Mitigating Technical Challenges: Proactively discover and address feasibility obstacles, technical debt, and potential design flaws to ensure a maintainable and efficient build system.
- Collaborating with Key Teams: Work closely with the Game Production Build Team and Game Teams to implement best practices and create documentation for a sustainable long-term build strategy.
Skills:
- You have great passion for programming and are committed to quality and polish. As a build engineer you are also analytical and naturally curious about understanding the entire tech stack.
- Proven experience of working with Bazel in a project that targets at least two of the following platforms: Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS or Android.
- Additional consideration for experience with C++-based projects.
- Experience in writing Bazel definitions in Starlark language.
- Base experience working with C/C++ projects from a build or developing point of view.
- Expertise in designing and maintaining the build system for a long-term project.
- An ability to write clean code.
- Talent to identify and mitigate technical debt and design flaws.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Capability to conduct in-house training sessions about technical aspects of Bazel.
- Ability to write clear and easily understandable guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional, team-oriented environments.
Bonus Points:
- Experience in CMake meta build system.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical aspects in an easy way.
- Proven contribution to a Bazel-related Open Source project.
- Experience managing and configuring the BuildBuddy SaaS.
