Join a team of skilled and experienced technologists tasked with maintaining and enhancing our large scale, globally deployed RedHat Linux-based platform. Use declarative configuration-as-code principles and extensive automation across a mixture of strategic engineering and design projects. Add features, manage, and tune configuration, and perform deep-level troubleshooting of the existing Linux platform management systems and Linux O/S configuration and builds. Input to the design and implementation of new solutions to support the fast-paced, dynamic needs of the business.

Skills & experience (must have):

  • Expert knowledge of Linux, including familiarity with UNIX system calls, and low-level O/S and network protocols.
  • Experience of using any modern config management system (examples such as Salt Stack, Puppet, or Chef) to automate management of a large-scale Linux deployment.
  • Ability to write robust, maintainable code in Python.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills across hardware, O/S, network, and storage.
  • Knowledge and experience of Linux patching processes, especially automation of testing and deployment.
  • Ability to convey complex technical topics to a non-technical audience.

You might also have: (nice to have skills)

  • Experience working in a large, multi-national enterprise in any industry vertical, showing experience of communicating and collaborating in globally distributed teams.
  • Enthusiasm for modern development tools and practices including Git, Jenkins, automated testing, and continuous integration.
  • Experience of designing, implementing and supporting large scale production IaaS platforms, working with virtualisation and other private cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of building and managing containerised software in a secure manner.
  • As a reference point, contributors to open source projects would be an ideal fit.
  • Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Perl, C, or C++.
